We are all familiar with the typical date snack – made with butter, sugar and biscuits. They may be delicious but they aren’t great for your waistline.That is why we decided to come up with an alternative date-based snack, high in fibre and healthy fats. They also require no heat so they are super simple to make – great way to get the kids involved.

 

STANDARD

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups dates
  • 1 cup pecan nuts
  • 1 cup almonds
  • 1 cup shredded coconut (plus a little extra for rolling)
  • 2 teaspoons flaxseeds
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Pinch of salt

 

Method:
Add the nuts, seeds, coconut and salt to a food processor. Then add the dates and blend until combined. Add water slowly until the mixture comes together.
Add a thin layer of coconut and sesame seeds on a plate. Roll the date mixture into bite-sized balls and coat in the shredded coconut mixture.

 

CHOCOLATE BLISS (PS: These are a winner!)

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons flaxseeds
  • 1/4 cup water

These date balls are delicious, energy-dense, healthy snacks that are great as a treat in a lunchbox or as an on-the-go snack. Athletes could also grab a few for endurance events.
